Marcellus Shale Exploration

Marcellus Shale Exploration - George believes we should be actively and safely exploring the energy resources available to us in the form of natural gas found in the Marcellus Shale deposits. He has held numerous meetings with concerned citizens and landowner groups, such as The Southern Tier Landowners Coalition, who are working to responsibly harness this energy for the benefit of our district. 

He opposes Maurice Hinchey's FRAC Act legislation which would bring the federal government into the process and delay it for years. New York State already has some of the most stringent environmental protection measures in the nation and we have engaged in a lengthy, thorough process of research and an extended period of public comment. There is no reason that this matter can not be handled on a state level.

Our neighbors in Pennsylvania, as well as other locations around the nation, are already realizing tremendous profit and opportunity from natural gas exploration and development. At a time when New Yorkers are facing high unemployment and severe financial challenges, we should be aggressively pursuing these options for our residents as well.
