Phillips Responds to McDonald vs Chicago Ruling

George Phillips responded to this week's Supreme Court decision in the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, which effectively struck down a broad ban on handguns in the city.

"I am pleased to express my appreciation and support of the Supreme Court decision in this case. The right to keep and bear arms is one of a handful of rights for American citizens which is clearly spelled out in our constitution. Combine with the previous finding in District of Columbia v. Heller, it has at last been clearly established that this right is fundamental to all law abiding citizens and that it is incumbent upon the states to honor this right.

"This is an issue of great importance to many residents of our district who enjoy hunting and target shooting, as well as being concerned with the erosion of the fundamental rights of citizens."
